Quality Control

Crushed stone, Sand, Gravel and asphalt mix for state and local government agencies, contractors, farmers, businesses and individuals.

The Quality Control Department of Wendling Quarries Inc. has four full time employees managed by David Schau and Certified in Aggregate levels 1 and 2 and ACC levels 1 and 2. Ken, Kyle, and Rich are all certified in Agg Levels 1 and 2 and also ACC level 1.

We at Wendling Quarries are an aggregate producing company who provides superior quality and service to our customers whether it’s in Quality Control or delivering of material. Also, we work together as a team and are determined to be the best in whatever we do.

Ken is our West end man for Quality Control. He works mainly out of our stationary lab at Cedar Rapids South Quarry. This lab is only set up for sieve testing aggregates. Also, a computer is available to report the data received from this lab.

Kyle is our Southern man in Quality Control. Kyle works mainly out of our Stationary Moscow lab and is also certified in testing Aggregate in the State of Illinois. Our Moscow lab is set up to do Aggregate Sieve testing and Aggregate Specific Gravity and Absorption along with Asphalt Plant inspection.

We can do our own Asphalt Mix designs in marshall or gyro compacted mixes. This lab is also equipped with a computer to report the data in Agg and ACC.

Rich is our floater man, he moves around to where the heavy work load is at. Rich is also Illinois Agg Certified.

Dave Schau is the manager of the Quality Control department and also handles Problem Solving, data reporting and many other jobs. Alan works out of our main office/lab in DeWitt and he is certified as Mix Designer in ACC and also Illinois certified.

Our DeWitt lab is set up for Aggregate Sieve testing, specific gravity and absorption, angularities, and abrasion testing.

We also have two portable labs to take to areas to save on travel time and achieve information faster. We have five portable crushing crews that have a small testing lab with the plant and at least one person from each crew certified in Agg level 1 and 2. Lastly, we have one portable dredge that is set up for running gradations and both men are certified here.

We also have two part time workers in the lab. Brad is certified in Agg level 1 and 2 and ACC level 1 and 2. He helps me a lot with his experience in asphalt. Then there is Tracia, who is summer-time help in running gradations and helping to keep me up to date on paper work and filing.
