DESCRIPTIONS OF OUR PRODUCTS

Roadstone: (Farmers Stone) - As the name implies, Roadstone is a granular surfacing stone used to surface gravel roadways, parking areas, driveways and a base under concrete and asphalt. Roadstone is available in several sizes from 1 inch up to 4 inches in diameter. 

1" Roadstone: (County Roadstone, 1" Minus) - Sieve Analysis = Varies from county to county but it is similar to Class "A"

2" Roadstone: (2" Minus) - 2" Roadstone is used for soft roads and temporary roadways. Sieve Analysis = 100% passing 2 inch sieve.

4" Roadstone: (4" Minus, Macadam, Mac Base) - 4" Roadstone is used for surfacing soft and temporary roadways and also for base course under roads. Sieve Analysis = Similar to Class "A", with 100% passing 4 inch sieve.

Erosion Stone: (4x9) - DOT Grad # 34; DOT section # 4130.05) - Erosion Stone can be used for more than just stream banks. It is also used for ditch checks, pond lining, gabion baskets, sewer lagoons, culvert openings and low water crossings. Sieve Analysis = 100% passing 9" screen, 100% retained on 3" sieve. 

Qualities: "C" Freeze - 15
                Abrasion   - 50 
                Mud/Clay -   5

Class "D" Rip Rap: (Shot Rock) - DOT section # 4130.04) - Class "D" Rip Rap is used on river and stream banks, field outlets and bridges and culverts. Sieve Analysis = Nominal maximum size of 250 pounds, 50% larger than 90 pounds, and 90% larger than 5 pounds. 

Qualities: "C" Freeze - 10
                Abrasion   - 50 

Class "E" Rip Rap: - DOT section # 4130.04) - Class "E" Rip Rap is used on river and stream banks, field outlets and bridges and culverts. Sieve Analysis = Nominal maximum size of 250 pounds, 50% larger than 90 pounds, and 90% larger than 5 pounds. 

Qualities: "A" Freeze - 10
                Abrasion   - 50 

Oversize Gravel: Sieve Analysis = Usually 100% passing 6 inches and 0% passing 2 1/2 inches.

Granite Boulders: (Field Stone) - Used primarily for landscaping, Granite Boulders come in a variety of shapes and sizes from 12 inches diameter.

Decorative Gravel: (Medium River Gravel) - Decorative Gravel is also used for landscaping. Sieve Analysis = 100% passing 1 1/2 inches and 0% passing 1/2 inch.

Rose Quartzite: (Pink Lady) - Rose Quartzite is used in landscaping and as the name implies, it has a pink or rose color. It is available in two (2) sizes; 3/8x3/4 and 1x2.

Septic Gravel: (River Gravel, River Rock) - As the name implies, Septic Gravel is uses when building septic system beds. It is also used for landscaping. Sieve Analysis = 100% passing 2 1/2 inches and 0% passing 1 1/2 inches.

Pea Gravel: (River Gravel) - Pea Gravel is used for roofing (Flat Roofs), Playgrounds, and landscaping. Sieve Analysis = Usually 100% passing 3/4 inch and  0% passing 3/8 inch.

3/8 Chips: (Washed Chips) - Used as a chip seal on roadways, granular surfacing on walkways and backfill around drain tile. Sieve Analysis = Usually the same as Porous backfill.

Porous Backfill: (Porous Chips) - (DOT Grad # 29; DOT section # 4131) - Porous backfill is used around drain tile and as a backfill behind retaining walls.

Granular Subbase: (Granny Subbase) - (DOT Grad# 12A; DOT Section# 4121) - Is used as a aggregate base under concrete paving when paved "off-line or offset.

Sieve Analysis = Graduation (Percent Passing)

Modified Subbase: (DOT Grad# 14; DOT Section# 4123) - Is used as a aggregate base under concrete paving when paved "in-line.

Qualities: "C" Freeze - 15

                P.I.           -   7

3/4" Clean: (3/4" Washed) - Used as a pipe bedding, an aggregate base under concrete slabs and french drains.. Sieve Analysis = Similar to concrete stone.

1" Clean: (1" Washed) - Used as a pipe bedding and an aggregate base under concrete slabs. Sieve Analysis = varies, but typically 100% passing 1 1/2 and 0-5% passing 3/4"

Concrete Stone: (#67 Concrete Stone) - (DOT Grad #5; DOT section #4115) - Concrete Stone is mixed with sand and Portland cement to make concrete.

2" Washed Ballast: (Septic Stone, Flux Stone) - Used in drain fields for septic systems and ballast rock for Railroad beds. Sieve Analysis = 100% passing 2 1/2"; 0-5 passing 3/4". Qualities: Same as concrete stone and absorption less than 8%.

Macadam Stone Base: (1x3 Macadam, 3" to 1", Mac Base), (DOT Grad #13; DOT Section #4122.02) - Used as a base course for roads, parking areas and driveways. Sieve Analysis = 3" Nominal maximum size, screen over 3/4 or 1" screen. Qualities: "C" Freeze - 10; Abrasion - 45 

Special Backfill: (DOT Grad# 30; DOT Section# 4132-02) - Special backfill is typically used for aggregate base material under asphalt & concrete roads. It is also used for backfill around structures. 

Sieve Analysis = Graduation (Percent Passing)

Fill Sand: (Bank Sand) - Fill Sand is used to backfill around small diameter pipe and around foundations. Sieve Analysis = Usually smaller than 3" gravels, consisting mostly of smaller particle sand, possibly containing some clays.

Concrete Sand: (DOT grad# 1) (DOT Section# 4110) - Concrete sand is used to mix with concrete stone and cement to make concrete. It is also used for ice control, backfill around pipe and foundations and in "mound" septic systems.

Mason Sand:  Mason Sand is used in masonry cement, Golf course greens and as backfill. It is similar to concrete sand.

Mansand: (Granular Backfill) - This product is used as a backfill around pipes and foundations and in drainage beds in wet areas. Sieve Analysis = varies, but usually 100%passing #4 and 0-1.5 passing #200.

Fill Lime (3/8' minus, Lime) - Used as a backfill around pipe and foundations. Also used as a base material under concrete slabs. Sieve Analysis = 100% passing 3/8".
